1. Dan Lanning, Oregon HC

This one makes a ton of sense and it’s not surprising to see his name being rumored as a potential head coaching candidate for the Aggies early on in the search.

Dan Lanning was a successful defensive coordinator at Georgia before deciding to take his talents to the Pacific Northwest where’s he’s experienced nothing but immense success at Oregon.

In fact, Lanning is 19-4 as Oregon’s head coach and the Ducks are currently smack-dab in the middle of a College Football Playoff race after a 9-1 start to the 2023 season. He just picked up a nice win over USC to notch that ninth win and if they can win out, they’ll be headed to the conference championship game for a rematch with Washington.

To me, this would be a no-brainer hire.

Lanning is young (37 years old), can win at a major program, has proven to be a heck of a recruiter, and knows the SEC. This would be a perfect fit and he could lead the program for at least a decade if he really wanted to and if the success came immediately.

If I’m Texas A&M, this is the first call I make after letting Jimbo Fisher go.
