Lane Kiffin, Ole Miss

I said that my first call would be to Dan Lanning, or at least his people, but. my guess is that the first person Texas A&M football will target is Lane Kiffin.

If you think about it, there is hardly a safer hire out there. Kiffin has proven that’s one of the better head coaches in college football. He’s been at USC, Tennessee, and now Ole Miss, which has been his best coaching job.

The Rebels only have so much upside though. It’s kind of like the Duke argument. Alabama and Georgia pounded the Rebels again this season and even though Kiffin is a damn good coach, players win games, not coaches.

He needs better talent and his recruiting prowess combined with the resources of Texas A&M football would be downright scary — it could also give him the players he needs to actually contend for a national championship.

He’s built a great program at Ole Miss and fought off rumors of leaving last season, so we’ll see if he has any interest.
