Oklahoma Sooners

The Sooners will need to replace Dillon Gabriel as their starting quarterback next season and heading into the SEC, you want to have a guy you can trust.

Oklahoma does have a five-star freshman quarterback in Jackson Arnold. He was ranked as the No. 4 quarterback in the 2023 class, as well as the No. 10 player overall.

One would think that he would be in line to get the next chance. However, you don’t know if he’s ready to start and that might make Howard an attractive option. The biggest challenge might be keeping Arnold on the roster if someone like Will Howard committed.

Arnold would have plenty of interest if he were to enter the transfer portal. That’s what makes the position such a delicate dance. Only the Sooners know if they believe enough in Arnold to roll with him as their starting quarterback next season.

But if they aren’t sure, the Sooners could do a lot worse than Howard, who has won a conference championship and started a New Year’s Six Bowl.
