Top 5 quarterback targets for Nebraska football in transfer portal
1. Blake Shapen
After a few seasons at Baylor, Shapen is looking for a new home and he’s another quarterback that has talked to Nebraska football.
Shapen isn’t one of the bigger names on this list. He hasn’t led his team to a win in the Big 12 championship game like Will Howard. He doesn’t have blue bloods drooling all over him like Cameron Ward or even the pedigree of Kyle McCord.
But Shapen has been productive. He’s got 36 career touchdown passes compared to just 13 interceptions. Over the last two seasons, Shapen has 31 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He has also averaged 7.4 yards per attempt to go along with a career completion percentage of 63.7.
Shapen also has two seasons with over 2,000 yards passing. He would be a clear upgrade over what Nebraska had last season.
Purdy could stick around and compete with Shapen, but with what should be a stellar defense, an offensive line returning its top six players, and an up-and-coming group of pass catchers, Shapen should be able to quarterback this team to a bowl game and it seems like a logical fit for both sides.
