If the season had spiraled, 2023 could’ve been Justin Wilcox’s final year at Cal. Instead, his team scrapped to 6-7 behind quarterback Fernando Mendoza and 1,000-yard rusher Jaydn Ott, so Wilcox is back.

With both Mendoza and Ott returning next year, Cal has promise on offense. Yet, two of the Bears’ biggest additions were at quarterback and running back with Chandler Rogers who threw for over 3,000 yards at North Texas last season, and Kadarius Calloway who averaged 7.1 yards a carry for Old Dominion.

It was a good portal class outside of those two, including former Notre Dame receiver Tobias Merriweather and former UC Davis linebacker Teddye Buchanan as highlights. However, the redundancy of Wilcox’s team-building drops Cal to No. 10 in these rankings.
