Week One Detmer Award Voting: Kellen Moore Leads
By Kyle Kensing
Week One voting is complete for the First Annual Detmer Award, and a lot of performers getting love — none more so than Kellen Moore, who had robot-like efficiency in Boise State’s win over Georgia. Moore jumped out to a big lead in the initial voting, with Chandler Harnish and Case Keenum bringing in second and third for the week. There are some defensive inclusions in the list, as well as some wide receivers. Our esteemed panel is keeping its ear to the ground and eyes to the box score. - 1. Kellen Moore, QB, Boise State – his usual (awesome) self in big win: 28-34 for 261 yards and 3 TDs.
- 2. Bryant Moniz, QB, Hawaii – the new Denard with better hair. 20-33 for 178 yards and 1 TD passing; 14 carries for 121 yards and 3 TDs rushing in a win over Colorado.
- 3. Case Keenum, QB, Houston – 30-40 for 310 yards and 2 TDs.
- 4. Casey Pachall, QB, TCU – gutty 4th quarter performance to almost claim a comeback win. 25-39 for 251 yards and 4 TDs on the road in his first start.
- 5. Ronnie Hillman, RB, SDSU – 189 yards and 2 TDs on 28 carries against Cal Poly.

- 1. Kellen Moore, QB-Boise State: What more is there to say about this guy? He dismantled an SEC defense with ease, picking up 261 yards and three touchdowns along the way. He’s the clear number one choice, and is absolutely one of the top players in college football.
- 2. Case Keenum, QB-Houston: After throwing for 310 yards and two touchdowns, it’s clear that Keenum is back. He briefly received consideration for the top spot, but the level of competition this week just wasn’t quite the same as for Moore. He is undoubtedly the best player in Conference-USA thought.
- 3. Bernard Pierce, RB-Temple: This was a tough choice, as many running backs had great weeks. But Pierce’s combination of 7.4 yards per carry and three touchdowns shone the brightest. Not only that, but he was the MAC offensive player of the week.
- 4. Ronnie Hillman, RB-San Diego State: His level of competition may not have been the highest, but his numbers stood out. 189 yards and two touchdowns is impressive no matter who you’re playing.
- 5. Ryan Lindley, QB-San Diego State: This team is an offensive juggernaut. There was some question as to whether Lindley would be able to post strong numbers without his top two targets. Those were all answered by his four touchdowns, and 203 yards.

- 1. QB Dominique Davis-ECU
Davis led ECU in the near upset of South Carolina, and in doing so firmly put himself on the National map in terms of a QB to be feared and accounted for week in and week out.
All T.Y. Hilton does is make plays, he’s so dangerous in so many different ways that’s its extremely difficult to account for him. In a big week 1 conference battle he put up 283 all purpose yards and was a force that could not be stopped.
One of the best RB’s in the country who nobody is talking about yet.Hillman put up another game of over 150 yards and multiple TD’s, When he gets rolling then San Diego State is a team to be feared.
Talk about coming out of nowhere, Capi had only 2 career tackles coming into this game and absolutely exploded onto the scene with 7 tackles .5 tackles for loss, .5 sacks, and 4 forced fumbles. A player to watch the rest of this year to be sure.
5. QB Case Keenum-Houston
Call it redemption for Keenum who had his year ended last year v. UCLA. Keenum was methodical and accurate as he pass by pass took UCLA’s defense apart.

- 1. Chandler Harnish, QB, NIU
- 2. Ronnie Hillman, RB, SDSU
- 3. Kriss Proctor, QB, Navy
- 4. Ryan Lindley, QB, SDSU
- 5. Julius Warmsley, DE, Tulane
Chad Smith, 7220 Report
- 1. Case Keenum QB Houston (He’s back!)
- 2. Kellen Moore QB Boise State (Solid in a win over UGA)
- 3. Bryant Moniz QB Hawaii (Ran and threw all over the Buffs)
- 4. Ronnie Hillman RB San Diego State (best kept RB secret in college football)
- 5. Kyle Van Nay LB BYU (defensive guys need love too!)
1. Shea McClellin, DE, Boise State
Boise State beat Georgia because their DL beat Georgia’s OL in the trenches and McClellin was the leader with .5 sacks. If I could give the entire Boise DL this award I would.
2. Chandler Harnish, QB, Northern Illinois
He only threw 12 passes but 5 of them connected for TDs as NIU bombed Army. Oh yeah, he also ran for 80 yards and a TD.
3. Kellen Moore, QB, Boise State
I think this award should actually go to the Boise State OL as they did an excellent job in pass protection and gave Moore the opportunity to sit back in the pocket and go where he wanted with the ball without pressure in the second half. Moore finished with only six incompletions and 3 TDs in a big game atmosphere.
4. Lance Lewis, WR, East Carolina
The Pirates were having their way with the Gamecocks early and Lewis was a big part of that. 13 receptions for over 100 yards and 2 TD.
5. Bryant Moniz, QB, Hawaii
Not the best passing game for Moniz but he led his squad to a victory over Pac-12 newcomer Colorado in the debut for the Buffaloes new coach. Moniz was 20 of 33 for 178 and 1 TD through the air but it was on the ground that he did his damage as he ran for 121 yards and 3 TD.He surpassed both his 2009 and 2010 yearly rushing totals in one game.
Kevin McGuire, College Football Examiner & No2MinuteWarning
- 1. Kellen Moore, Boise State QB – What more do we need to say about Moore? 261 yards and three touchdowns against Georgia in Atlanta speaks for itself, as if he needed it to.
- 2. Case Keenum, Houston QB – It was good to see Keenum get back on the field (ironically against UCLA) and put on a clinic. 30 completions, 310 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Yeah, he’s back.
- 3. Bernard Pierce, Temple RB – Pierce mau have been going up against a rebuilding Villanova squad, but his show against the Wildcats was still pretty darn impressive. Three touchdown runs of at least 19 yards was fun to watch.
- 4. Bryant Moniz, Hawaii QB – Moniz tortured Colorado through the air and on the ground with 178 passing yards and 121 rushing yards, and four total touchdowns. If this is going to happen weekly, I’ll stay up late for more Hawaii games, I promise!
- 5. T.Y. Hilton, Florida International WR – Any receiver who goes over 100 yards on fewer than ten catches will certainly grab my attention. Hilton had seven catches for 132 yards against North Texas an a route for the defending Sun Belt champs.
