National Signing Day Wrap-Up: Mountain West

facebooktwitterreddit

The continued transformation of the Mountain West includes Nevada, Fresno State and Hawai’i’s additions this off-season, but the departure of three-time defending conference champion TCU. There’s no guarantee that the MWC will have Boise State in its fold next season either, but the Broncos remain for the time being.

Regardless of whether BSU hangs around to take a run at the MWC title that eluded it last season, the 2012 MWC is a temporary version. The Broncos are leaving at one time or another, and taking up-and-coming San Diego State with them. The shift toward becoming WAC v4.0 is on — remember, the current WAC is down to seven teams and they will need homes if the league is unable to woo any more members.

BSU will be a mere footnote in MWC history, but the Broncos are making it an important one. Head coach Chris Petersen loses four-year starter Kellen Moore, as well as running back Doug Martin and offensive lineman Kyle Potter, but reloads with the conference’s top rated recruiting class. Bronco football isn’t known for pulling in attention-getting recruits — and compared to its new brethren over in the Big East, the BSU haul is modest at best. But for the MWC, its top shelf.

Read on for a complete breakdown of the 2012 MWC class.
