The lack of a clear front runner for the second annual Ty Detmer Award translates to opportunities for a different player to excite each week. In Week 1, it was Tyler Tettleton leading Ohio’s rally defeat of Penn State. In Week 2, another quarterback emerges as the top vote getter for engineering a comeback win against a BCS conference foe. ULM quarterback Kolton Browning was the runaway Week 2 leader, garnering all but one first place vote with his 412-yard passing performance against Arkansas.

His Warhawks’ 34-31 defeat of the Razorbacks marked the Sun Belt Conference’s first win over a top 10 opponent. It also springboards Browning into the top spot for the season total in the Detmer Award voting. Season totals are below, as well as this week’s ballots.

1. Kolton Browning, ULM: He was a one-man wrecking crew for the Warhawk defense in arguably the greatest win in not only ULM history, but Sun Belt Conference history.

2. Beau Blankenship, Ohio: Another outstanding game from the Bobcat running back, his effort helped Ohio pull away from a surprisingly game New Mexico State bunch.

3. Branden Oliver, Buffalo: His strong start against Georgia carried over in a romp against Morgan State.

4. David Piland, Houston: The change in offensive leadership seemed to suit David Piland. He was much closer to the player I anticipated him to be in Week 2 than Week 1.

5. Colby Cameron, Louisiana Tech: Piland may have put up better individual statistics, but Colby Cameron got the win.
