Week 7 Detmer Award: Louisiana Tech Duo Cameron, Patton Lead The Way
By Kyle Kensing
Oct 13, 2012; Shreveport, LA, USA; Louisiana Tech Bulldogs wide receiver Quinton Patton (4) catches a touchdown over Texas A
Louisiana Tech fell short of its upset bid against No. 22 Texas A&M, but the Bulldogs’ quarterback-wide receiver duo of Colby Cameron and Quinton Patton led the way in the Week 7 Detmer Award vote. They headline this week’s ballots, with Eastern Michigan running back Bronson Hill getting plenty of love.
And though none of its players received votes, we have a shout-out for the Tulane Green Wave. Tulane upset Conference USA opponent SMU for head coach Curtis Johnson’s first win.

1. Quinton Patton, Louisiana Tech
He was in the neighborhood of setting an NCAA record for single game receptions in Louisiana Tech’s thriller vs. Texas A&M.
2. Bronson Hill, Eastern Michigan
Though EMU fell short of winning its first game against a very good Toledo, you have to appreciate Bronson Hill’s effort. He scored three touchdowns in the third quarter only, and four on the game off a ridiculous 283 yards rushing.
3. Benny Cunningham, MTSU
Benny Cunningham scored both of his touchdowns in a huge second half rally past FIU, and went off for 230 yards. He’s been among the most productive rusher in all college football.
4. Colby Cameron, Louisiana Tech
Honestly, it’s a little ridiculous a quarterback who passed for five touchdowns and 450 yards is ranked this low. It’s more a testament to the outstanding week non-AQ players had than an indictment of anything Cameron did or didn’t do.
5. Dri Archer, Kent State
The versatile Dri Archer does so much for surprising 5-1 Kent State, and proved it against Army with 222 yards rushing, a touchdown, and a passing score on his one attempt.
