We are now down to one. That’s the number of undefeated teams left in the conference. And we are only five weeks into the season, with every other conference at least having two undefeated teams.

However, the mediocrity in the Big Ten also spells parity. Right now there are up to six teams who might have a legitimate shot at the Big Ten championship, and there are probably another three with delusional fan bases who think their teams have shots.

  • There’s a clear-cut Top 4, though, right now that we can decipher based on the way they have looked in their wins, the losses they had, and the teams they have beaten. There’s a second tier of teams who could easily make a run at those top teams and a case that they should be considered a Big Ten championship contenders.

    Then we have our massive disappointments, which obviously includes the Michigan Wolverines. The amount of disappointment and mediocrity in the conference has made these power rankings much more difficult to put together than the SEC.

    We have had to throw out some head-to-head factors based on how bad teams looked at certain times, which isn’t something we would usually do this early.

    So here are our Week 5 Big Ten Power Rankings. We hope the writing isn’t as mediocre as the conference.
