Smith checks in at 6-3, 225 pounds and is the nation’s No. 48 overall recruit, No. 3 weak-side defensive end and the No. 11 recruit in the state of Florida, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He picked Clemson over offers from Alabama, Oklahoma, Miami and LSU, among others.

He can play defensive end or linebacker at Clemson depending on how he fills out for the rest of time he has at the prep level at powerhouse IMG Academy that is home to some of the best talent in the nation.

Clemson moved up three spots to the nation’s No. 7 overall ranking with Smith’s commitment and now own the No. 3 class in the ACC, trailing Miami and Florida State, who have the nation’s two top classes, in the early rankings for the 2016 classes.

He is the eight member of the 2016 class, the second-highest ranked commit behind No. 21 player in running back Tavien Foster and the first defensive end in the class.
