Michigan Recruiting: Four-star WR Ahmir Mitchell commits to Wolverines

On Thursday, just a week before their season opener, the Michigan football program and head coach Jim Harbaugh scored an important victory over their bitter rivals at Ohio State.

Earlier this month, four-star wide receiver recruit Ahmir Mitchell (Egg Harbor City, N.J. Cedar Creek) announced that he would be announcing his decision on where he would commit to spend his collegiate career. He said via twitter his decision would come down to Michigan and Ohio State.

On Thursday, it was time to make his final decision between the two storied programs, and he chose Michigan. He creatively revealed his choice with the help of Bleacher Report, a banner, and an airplane.

Mitchell also took to Twitter to confirm his decision.

Mitchell is the nation’s No. 90 overall recruit, No. 3 athlete in the country, and the No. 7 ranked player in the state of New Jersey, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

He visited Ann Arbor on Jul 25, one day after visiting Ohio State for their Friday Night Lights even and later took an unofficial visit to Michigan on Aug. 2, which made it clear the Wolverines were in the lead for the talented recruit.

Michigan is making efforts to make New Jersey a pipeline to Ann Arbor and with last year’s commitment from No. 3 recruit Jabrill Peppers and sitting in the driver’s seat for No. 1 overall recruit Rashan Gary, the Wolverines are doing just that.

The Wolverines currently count the wide receiver position as a weakness, and adding a young athlete at the position for the next few years can only enhance Michigan’s national standing. Without a doubt, having plucked a highly ranked recruit from the clutches of Ohio State and head coach Urban Meyer is a huge win for the program.

The addition of Mitchell gives Michigan 23 commitments for the 2016 class that currently ranks No. 7 in the nation and No. 3 in the Big Ten.
