The Alabama football recruiting class is shaping up on the eve of National Signing Day with the commitment of Scott Lashley joining the Crimson Tide.

Alabama could be the biggest winner on National Signing Day with a half-dozen uncommitted elite recruits considering the reigning national champions. Alabama still may not have the nation’s No. 1 class they’ve had the previous four years, but the Crimson Tide will make a run for the recruiting championship.

They got a little closer to the top spot currently occupied by the rival LSU Tigers on Tuesday afternoon with the commitment from four-star offensive tackle Scott Lashley (West Point, MS. West Point) who was previously committed to the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

The 6-6.5, 324-pound offensive tackle is the nation’s No. 192 overall recruit, No. 18 tackle and the No. 8 recruit in the state of Mississippi, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He picked the Tide over LSU and Mississippi State.

Lashley should be given some time to develop in a reserve role before being thrust into the starting lineup or competing for a starting spot considering how well Alabama has recruited the offensive line in recent years. That really holds true since offensive line coach Mario Cristobal joined Nick Saban’s staff and that will only benefit Lashley in the long run.

With the commitment of Lashley, Alabama holds firm at the No. 5 spot and the No. 3 class in the SEC, according to the 247Sports Team Rankings, but don’t count out Saban and the Tide from making a run at the top spot when National Signing Day is over.
