Here are the final words Art Briles said to his Baylor football players after he found out he was being fired for his role in the school’s assault scandal.

Art Briles was fired by Baylor on Thursday morning after the school failed to effectively implement Title IX. Specifically, “a failure to identify and respond to a pattern of sexual violence by a football player and to a report of dating violence.”

Basically, Briles knew his players were committing sexual assaults and failed to identify and respond to a pattern of sexual violence and not taking any action in response to it. He hoped he could sweep it under the rug and hope he could survive because he wins 10 games a year at a school that had zero football success before he arrived eight years ago.

When Briles found out he was being fired, he didn’t have a meeting with his players to tell them he failed all of them and they have to deal with the consequences of his actions, or inaction.

Instead, Briles sent a group text to his players that you can read below, via Jessica Morey.

Secondly, family doesn’t abuse the trust and loyalty of a team of 18-22-year-old young men who have blind faith in the man who gave them a scholarship and could give them a ticket to the NFL.

Don’t preach about love, trust and family when you didn’t care about the victims of abuse.
