Notre Dame to rotate No. 1 jersey on weekly basis
Notre Dame is going with a new uniform tradition this season as Brian Kelly looks to reward players who represent themselves well on and off the field.
The Notre Dame football team is one of the blue bloods in college football and with that comes with a great deal of pride, history and tradition.
One of their prouder and traditional elements of Notre Dame is their iconic shiny gold helmets. It may be the greatest helmet in college or professional football and their uniforms are one of the best too.
But Notre Dame head football coach Brian Kelly is starting a new tradition with the Fighting Irish uniforms this year by having a rotating No. 1 jersey to reward those players who represent themselves well on and off the field.

Kelly explained the new rotating jersey number idea on WSBT 96.1 FM.
“No. 1 we’re going to hand out from week to week,” Kelly said. “And that’s going to be the player that exemplifies himself both on and off the field in a manner that represents all the things we want a Notre Dame football player to represent.”
The No. 1 jersey is probably the most-requested jersey number in college football so this is a nice honor for players at Notre Dame to work toward so they can get that distinction from their coaches that they are upholding the traditions and values of what it means to be a Notre Dame football player.
It may get a little tricky for those printing out the media guides and the programs each week and for the broadcasters calling the game when there is a new No. 1 each game, but I think they’ll be able to handle the extra work.
