Jim Harbaugh and his Michigan football team is the most popular bet to win the college football national title.

The defending champion Alabama Crimson Tide may be the betting favorite to repeat as national champions in college football, but Nick Saban’s team isn’t the most popular pick among bettors.

According to David Purdom of ESPN, the most popular team among many Las Vegas sportsbooks is the Michigan Wolverines. Jim Harbaugh’s team is the second favorite behind Alabama with 7-1 odds at the Westgate SuperBook and no other team has had more money bet on them than the Wolverines.

Purdom reports Michigan has received 10 percent of all the national title bets at William Hill’s Nevada book and have received the most bets at the MGM and Westgate sportsbooks to win it all.

The Westgate Superbook has the LSU Tigers, Clemson Tigers, Ohio State Buckeyes and Florida State Seminoles rounding out the top five money bets to win the national title.

Many bettors are not believing Alabama will win a fifth national title in eight years under Saban despite, but I think the lack of betting on Alabama is due to them being the favorite and it’s not fun to bet on the favorite because the payoff isn’t as significant.

Michigan went 10-3 in Harbaugh’s first season back at his alma mater. They featured one of the best defenses in the country and return one of the nation’s most exciting players in converted linebacker Jabrill Peppers.

However, the Wolverines need to find a starting quarterback after losing Jake Rudock to graduation. John O’Korn and Wilton Speight are battling for the job to be the next Harbaugh success story at the quarterback position.
