This week’s injury report is full of intriguing injuries. Some top teams will be without their star players.
Heading into Week 9, there are some key injuries to pay attention to. Clemson faces Florida State on the road. Nebraska faces Wisconsin on the road. So while it may look like a quiet week, there are some injuries that could effect outcomes.
Alabama was dealt a huge blow to their secondary, losing safety Eddie Jackson for the season. The Florida Gators may be without their top tackler linebacker Jarrad Davis to an ankle injury as well.
This week’s injury report has a lot of top teams looking to fill some holes very late in the season.
Here is this week’s injury report.
S Eddie Jackson, Alabama
The Alabama Crimson Tide lost safety Eddie Jackson for the season last week due to a broken leg.
Jackson was the anchor for the Crimson Tide defense. The Crimson Tide will look to move cornerback Minkah Fitzpatrick to the safety position to fill the void.
He had three touchdowns as a defensive player this season. He scored twice on punt returns and once on an interception return.
Jackson leads the FBS in punt return yards with 253 total yards and a 23-yard per punt return average. He was eighth on the teams in tackles with 24 total.
LB Jarrad Davis, Florida
The Florida Gators’ leading tackler linebacker Jarrad Davis will be a game-time decision this week against Georgia. He is questionable this week with an ankle injury.
The senior linebacker left the team 40-14 win over Missouri early after the injury. As they enter their rivalry game this week with Georgia, they’ll need one of their biggest leaders.
Davis leads the Gators defense in tackles (48), second in tackles for loss (3.5), fourth in sacks (2), and first in pass breakups (4).
If Davis is unable to go, true freshman linebacker David Reese will look to fill the void.
WR Jordan Westerkamp, Nebraska
Wide receiver Jordan Westerkamp will return from a back injury in Week 9 which is key as they face Wisconsin on the road.
Westerkamp missed the last two games due to a back injury and is likely to play this week. He isn’t listed at all on the injury report but his return comes at a perfect time.
The Cornhuskers are 7-0 on the season, 4-0 in Big Ten play and rank seven in the AP Poll. They have lost the last three meetings to the Badgers. If they want a shot at a Big Ten title, they’ll need Westerkamp on offense.
WR Jesus Wilson, Florida State
Wide receiver Jesus Wilson is out for Saturday’s game against Clemson due to a foot injury. With two losses already on the season, the Seminoles will need to be at full strength.
Wilson is second on the team in catches (30) and receiving yards (390). He also has a receiving touchdown. Wilson will be replaced by a rotation of receivers Auden Tate, Nyqwan Murray and Da’Vante Phillips.
Wilson is also a punt return specialist for the special teams unit. He has nine returns for 155 total yards and one touchdown on the season.
RB Wayne Gallman, Clemson
Head coach Dabo Swinney believes running back Wayne Gallman will be at 100 percent Saturday against the Seminoles. It helps Clemson had a bye week last week as well.
Gallman missed most of the Tigers’ 24-17 victory over NC State due to a concussion, and it showed. He leads the Tigers in rushing with 489 rushing yards and five touchdowns.
The Tigers offense managed just 117 rushing yards, they average 170 per game. Quarterback Deshaun Watson rushed for 35 rushing yards and the lone rushing touchdown of the game.
RB Dedrick Mills, Georgia Tech
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets running Dedrick Mills is out for Saturday’s game against Duke due to an upper body injury. The injury happened in practice this week.
Mills leads the Yellow Jackets in rushing with 446 rushing yards. He has 95 carries and is averaging 4.7 yards-per-carry. He has 10 rushing touchdowns as well.
The Yellow Jackets are 1-3 in the ACC and looking to turn a corner after losing their last three conference games.
Running back Marcus Marshall will replace Mills on the depth chart this week.
WR KaVontae Turpin, TCU
The TCU Horned Frogs will get one of their playmakers back this Saturday when receiver KaVontae Turpin returns from injury against Texas Tech.
Turpin was out since Week 4 due to a knee injury. So far this season, he has 16 catches for 296 receiving yards. He also plays a large role on the special teams unit. He has 164 kickoff return yards and 115 punt return yards and a punt return touchdown.
The Horned Frogs are 4-3 on the season and 2-2 in the Big 12.
