ESPN smart to sign Lee Corso to extension on College GameDay

ESPN College GameDay has made the right move, retaining its popularity by extending Lee Corso as a personality.

Enjoy watching College GameDay every Saturday morning in the fall, especially the part where Lee Corso makes his prediction? Well, you will have the luxury of watching the crazy coach and his famous ‘not so fast’ catchphrase for another couple of years as he signed a multi-year extension.

Derek Volner of ESPN Media Zone released the news on Wednesday. The lovable personality that is Corso will remain a member of the College GameDay staff for another couple of years, at least. Senior coordinating producer Lee Fitting had some glowing remarks about the extension.

"“Coach Corso has been the mainstay on College GameDay since the beginning and we couldn’t imagine the show without him,” said Lee Fitting, ESPN senior coordinating producer. “Arguably, nobody has done as much for the popularity of college football over the past 30 years than Coach Corso. His dedication, preparation and unwavering love for College GameDay and its fans is so powerful and we are lucky to call him ours.”"

It’s true, though. Corso has done more for the popularity of the show than anyone else because of his outgoing personality and famous headgear picks.

What headgear picks am I talking about? Well, starting in October of 1996, Corso started putting on the headgear of the team he picks to win at whichever campus they’re visiting for each respective week’s GameDay destination. He is 193-101 in his picks — many of them are the home team, but he’s not afraid to ruffle the home fans’ feathers with an away pick.

Corso is a staple of the college football season and even though he’s 81 years old, he still has plenty of life left in him to be that fiery analyst on College GameDay.
