LSU football had a nice performance in Week 2 over FCS foe Southeastern Lousiana. Nick Brossette continued to be a force for the Tigers.

Facing off against former four-star recruit Chason Virgil who is now playing quarterback against Southeastern Louisiana, LSU may have gotten a tougher test than originally thought, but the Tigers handled the FCS foe with relative ease.

Not only did the defense look solid for a second straight game, blanking the Lions and allowing just over 250 total yards, but Nick Brossette really stole the show.

Joe Burrow had another so-so performance, completing just 50 percent of his passes (10-of-20) for 151 yards and two touchdowns, but the Ohio State transfer is leading the offense well for having only been with the team for a few months.

Brossette, on the other hand, was tasked with replacing Derrius Guice who starred for the Tigers for a couple of seasons. It seemed like a nearly impossible task, but the senior back impressed for the second straight game.

In fact, Brossette had his second straight 100-yard rushing performance, going for 137 yards on 19 carries. He showed flashes of brilliance and carried the offense when Burrow struggled with his accuracy.

LSU has proven to be a national contender with an opening win over then-No. 8 Miami and Brossette went for over 120 yards in that one, so this isn’t a fluke.

In a year that seemed to be disappointing for the run game, Ed Orgeron has adequately replaced Guice and has done so more effectively than anyone had imagined. Watch out for this LSU team once Burrow inevitably gets going.
