17. University of Oklahoma: The Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium
The Oklahoma Sooners football program is one of the more legendary in the history of college football, churning out Heisman Trophy winners and winning their fair share of national titles.
The last two Heisman Trophy winners have come from Oklahoma, Baker Mayfield, who won the award in 2017, and Kyler Murray, who took home the award in 2018 in his only season as the starter in Norman.
Both Mayfield and Murray had the luxury of playing their home games inside one of the better home-field advantages in all of college football. The Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium is not only a huge stadium but one of the rowdier in college football. You can be sure that it will be filled for every Sooners home game.
The stadium was christened way back in 1923, as the Sooners took on the TCU Horned Frogs on Oct. 20. The Horned Frogs were ranked in the top 10 heading into that ball game. That did not stop Oklahoma from putting a 38-20 beatdown on TCU, opening their new stadium with a huge program victory. It showed that this place was going to be a tough place to play.
Affectionately known as “Owen Field,” or “The Palace on the Prairie,” The Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium is the 15th largest in college football and one of the better atmospheres in the nation.
The bowl-shaped stadium is one of the more recognizable in all of football and has played a huge role in helping Oklahoma to seven national titles, to go along with 45 conference championships.
