Links at Lunch: ACC Media Day, Houston Nutt Breaks the Fourth Wall

The Atlantic Coast Conference began its media days Sunday, an odd choice given those are usually mid-week endeavors. Between North Carolina and Georgia Tech’s NCAA issues, and the quarterback upheaval at NC State, the offseason’s been a long one for a conference desperately needing good news. Well, here’s some: the ACC has potential to finally make national noise according to FOX Sports South’s Andrew Jones. Meeting that potential is the big question.

Florida State is the conference’s runaway favorite, receiving 50 of 71 first place votes. But Virginia Tech is the league’s reigning champion, and Eddie Whitley channeled his inner Omar Little: when you come at the king, you best not miss (per The Orlando Sentinel‘s Chopping Block blog).

VPI players were the stars Sunday, including wideout Danny Coale. Coale was among the top receivers in the Hokie offense, and he’s also looking to make his mark on special teams. Randall Cunningham double-dipped as a quarterback and punter, in fact making his way to the College Football Hall of Fame as punter. It will certainly be interesting to see if Coale can leave a similar footprint (pun intended).
