Links at Lunch: More on Miami, Badger Breakdown, Cliff Harris Video
By Kyle Kensing
Talk of the Miami scandal is everywhere on the college football blogsophere. CBSsports.com columnists Gregg Doyel and Dennis Dodd each brought their A games to the discussion. Dodd points out hypocrisy in Paul Dee sitting on NCAA infractions committees. Doyel silences some of the chatter on the death penalty, pointing out the ramifications such a penalty could have on the entire NCAA. Two more gentlemen whose work I consistently enjoy talk about this mess at In The Bleachers, as Michael Felder interviews Bomani Jones.
Nevin Shapiro seems to liken himself to another famous Miami booster, but ex-2 Live Crew frontman Luther Campbell had harsh words for the Ponzi scheme conspirator-turned-snitch on Rivals Radio.
All this negative attention on Miami is reminiscent of the 1980s. Violent drug wars made the city a hot choice for television and film producers to use it as a background in crime dramas. Everyday Should Be Saturday provides some needed levity in its Curious Index, most notably the outstanding .GIF of Sebastian the Ibis as Tony Montana.
- Say, anyone want to actually talk football? Badger of Honor breaks down incoming talents to the frontrunning Wisconsin program.
- Staying in the Big Ten, Penn State had its media day yesterday. Gee, wonder why few are talking about? Well, Victory Bell Rings is, highlighting the day’s best.
- SaturdayBlitz.com FCS Roundtable’er and upcoming podcast guest Kyle Roth had a similar examination on the highlights of North Dakota State’s Fan Day on the Bison Sports Blog.
- More from the FCS ranks, this time on the NFL gridiron. Montana’s Marc Mariani was an All-American performer for the 2009 runner-up Grizzlies. Now, he’s a Pro Bowl member of the Tennessee Titans and only improving as Titans Online exhibits.
- It feels like lightyears ago the blogosphere was lighting up with talk of conference realignment. Oh, how I yearn for that simpler time. The various outlets, namely Aggie Yell, that reported A&M’s move as a “done” deal are probably thankful such stories went way on the backburner with this Miami news. Conference shifting may be on hold for now, but there’s more to come as Matt Yoder writes on Crystal Ball Run.
- No one could be more elated with the Miami story’s timing than Oregon supporters. Added embarassment arose from June’s Cliff Harris traffic incident, as the police video hit the web this week. The Seattle Times as a complete recap.
