Portions of Southern California (including mine), Arizona and New Mexico lost power at 3:45 Pacific Time yesterday. The outage seemingly extended to the UA football team, which suffered a brutal 37-14 loss at Oklahoma State. A key? Three red zone opportunities that yielded zero points. This is an issue that extends to the Wildcats’ five-game skid last season, and continues to loom. Kevin Zimmerman chronicled the Wildcats’ issue at AZ Desert Swarm.
As for the Cowboys, the OSU offense showed glimpses of absolute brilliance. Kevin McGuire called the Brandon Weeden-Justin Blackmon combination “unstoppable” on Crystal Ball Run, but Samuel Bryant at Cowboys Ride For Free found some kinks in the Pokes’ proverbial armor.
One indisputable fact of Thursday’s game: Arizona played like cats (not Wildcats) and Oklahoma State were dogs. Coastal Carolina head coach David Bennett gave an impassioned speech about needing dogs in the CCU hen house. This is all the buzz around the internet thanks to Dr. Saturday:
- Two Friday night tilts scheduled should provide more punch than UA-OSU. The first is a young Louisville team hosting a very talented and very hungry FIU bunch, previewed at Big East Coast Bias.
- Arizona State hosts Missouri in a Blackout. House of Sparky has that and more in its Gameday Preview.
- Cal faces Colorado in what would be a Pac-12 game…if it wasn’t a non-conference home-and-home scheduled a few years ago. The conference mates meet in a non-league tilt. Golden Bear Lair breaks down the offensive and defensive/teams match-ups.
- Ohio State looks to go to 2-0 under Luke Fickell when the Buckeyes take on Toledo. Scarlet & Game has the team’s five keys to victory.
- Wyoming survived a scare vs. FCS Weber State last week. Another FCS program (at least, for one more year) comes to Laramie. 7220 Report previews the Cowboys’ match-up with Texas State.
