Five Star Recruit Reuben Foster’s Flip Adds To Iron Bowl Rivalry

It’s minor in comparison to the 42-14 beating Alabama laid on his Auburn Tigers last November, and contingent on Reuben Foster remaining committed seven months from now, but in the interim Gene Chizik has something to lord over Nick Saban in their Iron Bowl rivalry.

Foster, a five star linebacker prospect from Auburn, Ala., announced on Thursday he wanted to stay home to play his college ball. Foster had verbally committed to Alabama before his junior season, and was the centerpiece of Saban’s still impressive 2013 signing class. Ranked the No. 2 overall prospect by Rivals.com, Foster bumps AU to the nation’s No. 11 class in ’13 — still behind nemesis Alabama, but gaining ground. The Tide is currently ranked No. 7.

The coup comes at an opportune time for Auburn, a program desperately needing good news. One 2013 Tiger five star commit, defensive lineman Dee Liner, was arrested on Wednesday. AU has had other misfortunes throughout the off-season, including leading rusher Michael Dyer’s transfer before testifying in a robbery trial.

Meanwhile, the rich has grown richer with defending national champion Saban adding one highly ranked prospect after another, shoring up his program’s future. Alabama has 10 four star commitments for 2013, but Foster was the lone five star verbal pledge before his decommitment.
