Redd and Gold: Silas Redd Transfers From Penn State To USC
By Kyle Kensing
Silas Redd made it official Tuesday, transferring from Penn State to USC. He issued a statement to The Stamford Advocate that detailed a difficult, emotional process in which Redd ultimately had to come to one conclusion.
"[P]laying football at Penn State has been a dream of mine since I was seven years old, and I will be forever grateful that this dream became a reality. This is the reason that the decision I have made is so difficult for me: I will transfer to USC to complete my education and my college football career, beginning in the 2012-2013 year. Penn State gave me a phenomenal opportunity to become part of a legendary football program."
Redd showed foresight earlier in the day when he locked his Twitter account. This was obviously a very difficult choice for a young man who obviously loved his school. Via the Big Ten Network, this video was taken a year ago:
At USC, he will have the opportunity to play for the BCS title. Many had the Trojans slated for an appearance in Miami before his transfer was official. With him, Lane Kiffin just might have the nation’s best offense.
The talented running back was No. 3 in the Big Ten rushing a season ago, accruing over 1200 yards. The combination of Redd and Curtis McNeal has gives the Trojan football program its most prolific rushing attack since LenDale White and Reggie Bush combined for over 3000 yards in 2005.
Even sniffing the output those two provided is unlikely, especially with Matt Barkley coming off a season of throwing 446 times, including 39 passes for touchdowns. But the balance available is incomparable to anything else in the nation.
