Georgia Offensive Tackle Experiences Groundhog Day, Banned Substance Style

In the 1993 comedy Groundhog Day, the main character Phil (played by Bill Murray) has an alarm clock that wakes him up each morning at 6 am of Feb. 2, Groundhog Day — again and again and again.
Georgia starting right rackle Kolton Houston has been experiencing something similar. According to the Associated Press, Houston is “ineligible because he continue to test positive for a banned performance-enhancing substance he was given for a shoulder surgery more than two years ago.”
AP does not explain who gave Houston the banned substance, called 19-norandrosterone. However, Georgia head coach Mark Richt said that his coaching and the UG medical staffs are certain that Houston has not taken the substance since the medical procedure Houston underwent in 2010.
The NCAA is not as certain as Richt. NCAA president Mark Emmert has rejected Georgia Athletic Director Greg McGarity’s request to allow Houston to compete for the Bulldogs this season despite ANOTHER positive test result.
According to AP, Richt says that the “Georgia medical staff hopes the substance . . . will eventually leave Houston’s system.”
