The Football Writers Association of America named Georgia linebacker Jarvis Jones the Bronko Nagurski Defensive Player of the Week. Jones was a one-man wrecking crew in the Bulldogs’ SEC opening road defeat of Missouri, twice sacking Tiger quarterback James Franklin, forcing a pair of fumbles and grabbing his first career interception. His effort buoyed a Dawg defense that was without four starters. The 20 points Georgia held MU to were nearly 13 fewer than the Tigers’ 2011 average.
Jones was an Associated Press 1st Team All-America selection last season, his first with the Bulldogs. He transferred to Georgia from USC, where he could not gain medical clearance to play after suffering a neck injury as a freshman.
