The Nov. 10 edition of ESPN College GameDay will air live from the deck of the USS SAN DIEGO, the network announced in a press release on Friday. The broadcast is showcased “as part of ESPN’s fourth annual America’s Heroes: A Salute to Our Veterans. The five-day initiative, from Wednesday, Nov. 7 through Sunday, Nov. 11, will honor veterans and troops in programming across ESPN’s U.S. media platforms,” the press release said.
More details are forthcoming, but this is a noteworthy addition to a busy sports weekend in San Diego’s harbor. San Diego State plays Syracuse in the Battle on the Midway the preceding Friday night, which is slated to occur on the USS Midway. It replaces the Carrier Classic that featured North Carolina and Michigan State, and was played on the USS Carl Vinson.
Servicemen and women from the area’s two prominent bases — Naval Base San Diego and Marine Corps Base Camp Pendelton north of Oceanside — will be in attendance for GameDay’s first trip to San Diego.
