Everything is bigger in Texas.
Except, ironically enough, for college football stadiums.
Michigan Stadium still reigns as the nation’s stadium with the greatest capacity at 109,901.
Texas A&M won’t quite top that mark, but it will reportedly crack the 100,000-capacity mark. Texas’ Darrell K. Royal Stadium already exceeds the mark with a capacity of 100,119.
A&M’s plan seems to be parlaying its massively successful first year in the SEC into a Texas-sized stadium. Word is Kyle Field will be renovated to exceed a capacity crowd 102,000.
Currently, Kyle Field ranks 14th among regular college football sites with a capacity of 82,589.
According to The Dallas Morning News, the renovation project could cost more than $450 million. It also said, per athletics director Eric Hyman, that this could be the most expensive on-campus stadium project in the country.
