New Baylor Uniforms, Same Winning Ways

Baylor tweeted via its official football account images of its many news uniforms for the 2013 season. Here’s a taste:

Traditional, chrome and matte helmets are part of the Bears’ new look. But Baylor’s wardrobe is all that is a new-look in 2013. The on-field product should be very reminiscent of recent Art Briles teams.

Before the 2010 Bears reached the Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas, BU went 15 seasons without reaching the postseason. Briles has reversed the Bears’ fortunes, leading BU to three consecutive bowls and two wins. Last season’s rout of the UCLA Bruins in the Holiday Bowl propels BU into 2013 with particular vigor.

Athlon Sports ranks Baylor one of the nation’s most likely teams to start strong, carrying its momentum from the final month of 2012 into the opening month of the coming season.

The Holiday Bowl culminated a very strong finish for a Baylor team that faced down the end of its short postseason streak. Included in the Bears’ final month was a lopsided upset of a then-undefeated Kansas State Wildcats team. Nick Florence wasn’t Robert Griffin III, but Florence proved the program was no one-hit wonder.

He’s gone, but expectations for new quarterback Bryce Petty are high. Sports On Earth college football columnist Matt Brown includes Petty on his list of 10 potential breakout stars in the 2013 season.

Teammate Lache Seastrunk called Petty a freak during spring practices. And Petty is not alone. Seastrunk is another talent primed for a supernova eruption in BU’s uptempo offense.

Seastrunk went off for 138 yards and a touchdown in the Holiday Bowl rout, building momentum into the off-season that could carry the junior to Heisman contention.
