Los Angeles Times UCLA Bruins beat reporter Chris Foster reported via Twitter that redshirt freshman quarterback TJ Millweard is transferring, pending his release.
Millweard was a three-star recruit on UCLA head coach Jim Mora’s initial signing class. He signed with the Bruins in 2012, spurning offers from Arizona State, Arkansas, Virginia Tech and Kansas State. Millweard was at one-time a verbal commit to UCLA’s Pac-12 counterpart ASU, but followed former Sun Devil offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone to UCLA. The Sun Devils remained in the hunt for his commitment after Todd Graham’s arrival as head coach, but lost out.
The Fort Worth All Saints Episcopal product was one of seven quarterbacks on the Bruins’ current roster, five of whom are also freshmen or redshirt freshmen.
Playing time is guaranteed to be at a premium in Westwood, even if sensational redshirt sophomore Brett Hundley leaves for the NFL after this season. Millweard may have lost ground to true freshman and four-star prospect Asiantii Woulard, who Foster reports has been “set up for mentoring” under Hundley.
Woulard is a dual-threat quarterback with a strong throwing arm, much like Hundley. He was the MVP of the June 2012 Elite 11 camp.
