Munchie Legaux returned from a brief benching on Saturday to lead Cincinnati’s rally effort at Illinois. Midway through the fourth period, though, the Bearcat quarterback rolled over a defender and suffered a devastating leg injury.
Legaux was carted off the field with a towel covering the injured leg. Out of respect for Legaux, his teammates and family, SaturdayBlitz.com will not post video of the injury.
After the game, UC athletic director Whit Babock provided an update on Legaux’s condition via Twitter:
With Munchie Legaux out, Brendan Kay becomes the uncontested Cincinnati quarterback. Kay was 2 of 3 three passing for 14 yards with two rushes for another seven in his limited appearance upon entering the game. Illinois built a three-touchdown lead upon the time of Legaux’s injury, capitalizing on a would-be scoring rush from the Bearcat quarterback that was ruled a fumble on fourth down. Initially ruled a touchdown, Legaux’s rush would have cut a previously 21-0 deficit to 21-17.
