Ohio State’s offense has been in good hands with preseason Heisman Trophy contender Braxton Miller nursing an injury. Senior Kenny Guiton stepped in to lead the Buckeyes to two wins, against San Diego State and Cal, and is easily on his way to a third against overmatched Florida A&M.
There’s no question Miller will start upon his return, but Guiton maximized his opportunity as the starer. Saturday, he etched his name into the Ohio State record books today with four touchdown passes in the first half against FAMU.

Granted, Guiton’s two four passing touchdown performances came against a completely rebuilt Cal Golden Bears defense that has given up over 120 points in three games, and a team from the MEAC. Nevertheless, reaching a milestone last set by a Heisman Trophy winner is quite the accomplishment for a player who has stayed dedicated to the Ohio State program.
Guiton later struck for two more touchdown passes to set the Ohio State single game record.
Urban Meyer rewarding Guiton’s commitment despite spending his career as a reserve is commendable — let’s just hope Meyer doesn’t reward it too much. If Guiton stays in the game after halftime, with the Buckeyes leading by six touchdowns, that would be overkill. Kind of like converting a fourth down up three touchdowns against a MEAC opponent:
