Illinois senior quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase continues to register some big numbers early into the season. In Week 1, he passed for 340 first half yards against Southern Illinois. Today against Miami (OH.), Scheelhaase goes into the locker room with five touchdowns, one shy of the all-time Illini record.
Scheelhaase’s five scores went to four different receivers, and he has 16 completions to eight different receivers. Josh Ferguson made five receptions for 77 yards and a touchdown. Matt LaCosse hauled in a pair of scores.
He came into Saturday’s non-conference game with 884 yards and seven touchdowns through three games. A win against the RedHawks — which looks likely — brings the Illini to 3-1. Illinois won two games in the entire 2012 season.
