Maryland quarterback CJ Brown was walked off the field against Florida State after taking a stiff helmet shot to the chest.
Jaccobi McDaniel’s hit looked like it could have been flagged under the NCAA’s new targeting rule–but since targeting has rarely been enforced properly, no such penalty came.

Caleb Rowe replaced Brown. Brown was 6-of-14 for 82 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions at the time of his injury.
Maryland suffered through a series of quarterback issues last season, starting with the offseason transfer of Danny O’Brien to Wisconsin then season-ending ACL injuries to both Brown and Rowe.
Florida State took a 21-0 lead into halftime, overwhelming Maryland in the Terps’ first Top 25 clash this season.
