Max Wittek, a backup quarterback at USC the last couple of seasons, will transfer to another school. Wittek was in the running for the starting job at the start of the 2013, and even played regularly in the first 2 games, but ultimately lost out to Cody Kessler. As a fourth-year junior who has already completed his degree, Wittek will be able to compete straight away.
Wittek was originally an early enrollee at USC, hoping to sit for a season as the heir apparent to Matt Barkley before taking over in 2013. He did some action late in 2012 when Barkley was knocked out for the year, but he never parlayed the experience into a starting job.
The junior completed 50 of 95 passes for 600 yards, with 3 TDs and 6 interceptions, and also ran for a score. There has been no announcement where Wittek may go, but there are plenty of holes at the quarterback position throughout the FBS going into next season.
Kessler will have one less contender for his starting job in 2014, but redshirt freshman Max Browne caught the eye of the previous administration, and a coach like Steve Sarkisian could work wonders with him. Also in the mix is freshman Jalen Greene.
