Tulane Green Wave offer Aaron Golub preferred walk-on spot

Tulane University’s been in the news a couple of times recently, but unlike many of their fellow schools, it’s for stories that will put a smile on your face.

The first was the graduation of safety Devon Walker, who you may remember was paralyzed from the neck down in an on-field collision in 2012. Walker graduated with a degree in cell and molecular biology, and received a 1-day contract from the Saints out of respect for his achievement, and his positive impact on the Louisiana community.

Now the Green Wave are at pleasing the nation again, this time offering long snapper Aaron Golub a preferred walk-on spot.

Normally, this wouldn’t be cause for any fanfare, but Golub is legally blind, with zero vision in his left eye and limited vision in his right. That sounds like a major obstacle for a long snapper, but don’t tell Golub that.

The Massachusetts’ native has been playing football since seventh grade, and has made a name for himself at camps run by Chris Rubio. As the long snapper for his high school team (Newton South) the last couple of years, his head coach says Golub only had one bad snap over that span, and he received a 70 rating (2 star) from 247Sports, making him the 18th ranked long snapper in the country.

Golub also received an offer from Illinois, but felt Tulane was a better fit. Now the Green Wave can look forward to another remarkable young man graduating from their program in 4 (or 3) years time.
