  • This is it for Wilson. He doesn’t have to do much better, but he has to do enough to sell that the team has taken giant steps under him since his 1-11 start his first season in 2011. That means getting bowl eligible.

Expect the team to look a lot like it did last year, but with some improvement. The offense should be even better than last year, even if the scheme changes a bit, the defense should still struggle, and the special teams will be worse. But as long as special teams isn’t terrible and the defense improves throughout the year in the new system, there is just enough for a better year than last year.

The Hoosiers should have enough winnable games on their schedule to reach 6 wins this year. They should go 3-1 out of conference,

which is an extra win in out of conference games from last year, and Purdue and Rutgers should be wins again. That’s five, then they just need one among Iowa, Maryland, who is new to the conference, or Penn State, whom they beat last year and is going through a coaching change.

Getting 6 or 7 wins and making a bowl game this year should be the expectation. The Hoosiers are good enough to do that, and then next year they should be able to take another step up.
