Mack Brown Joins ESPN As College Football Analyst
By Ben Nielsen
ESPN has announced it has hired Mack Brown to be analyst.
Brown resigned as the University of Texas head coach after last season and appears to have a chosen a career in television as opposed to an athletic director. The TV move makes sense for him over the possibility of taking a position within the Texas athletic department after the way Brown left the school. Rumors swirled around the possibility of his firing and the school’s desire to lure Nick Saban to the university. Those attempts fell short and Brown resigned shortly after discussions with the university.
The 2005 national championship coach will be providing studio analysis along multiple platforms and will join Danny Kanell and John Saunders on ABC’s College Football Countdown.
“I’ll be able to share my excitement this year in a little different way than the last 42 years,” Brown told USA TODAY Sports. “We’ve kind of been talking about it over the three years. It wasn’t a regular conversation, but it’s something (ESPN President John Skipper) said: If and when you quit, we’d love to talk to you. He made that call, and I’m really excited about it.”
No word on what Brown’s role will be when ABC/ESPN broadcasts the Red River
Shootout
Showdown which is scheduled for October 11. Hopefully ESPN puts him front and center as Brown should have some very interesting things to say given the rivalry with Oklahoma but also with the drama that surrounded Brown’s departure from Texas.
