The Stanford Cardinal are two-time defending Pac 12 champions and return starters all over the field this year, including at quarterback.

But for the third straight year they open the season ranked below the team they beat the past two years to win the Pac 12. And this year they aren’t in the Top 10 in either poll.

How does that work with a team that was a total of 13 points away from an undefeated season last year? Maybe it’s because people still can’t take the idea of Stanford being a powerhouse seriously. Or maybe people still can’t give Cardinal head coach David Shaw the respect he deserves as he has continued what he helped Jim Harbaugh build.

One thing is for sure, though, Shaw can flat out coach and develop players. He knows how to run a program.

There are some questions facing the Cardinal this year, including on the offensive line and playing more tough teams on the road this year. But this is still a disrespected program.

If Shaw can work out a couple of kinks going into the season, it is a team that will be primed and ready for the college football playoff. Continue to Next Slide for Offense
