  • Frank Beamer’s 2014 Virginia Tech Hokies have a ton of returning talent all over the field except for at quarterback. That is a position still unresolved going into Saturday, and we likely won’t know anything after the matchup against William and Mary. This is a good test to see who Logan Thomas’s replacement will be, with Michael Brewer and Mark Leal both in the running, but this isn’t truly a game that will showcase how good either one is.

The William and Mary Tribe were 7-5 last year and don’t really have the type of team to compete on an FBS level, but you do have to take them seriously for a few minutes (see West Virginia last year). However, there is not much to this team and no way for Beamer to measure how good the Hokies will be after playing them. The best part is the Tribe do have a very good defense by FCS standards, so perhaps it will help in determining the full-time quarterback.

    Prediction

Brewer and Leal will both see lots of action as Beamer still tries to find a starter, and both will show signs of inconsistency and brilliance. Beamer ball will kick in for one or two big special teams plays as well, and the Hokies walk out with a very easy blowout win.

Virginia Tech: 27 William and Mary: 3
