10. MAC

Congratulations to the Mid-American Conference. After a terrible first week of college football, you have now surpassed the Conference USA and the Sun Belt for the worst conference in college football. Here’s a number for you: 0. That’s the number of wins the conference had in non-conference games against FBS opponents. The only FBS win over the weekend for the conference was when two of the teams played each other, as Ohio beat Kent State 17-14.

  • The pathetic nature of the conference did not show Thursday night, when it won all three games. But not one of them was against an FBS opponent. It showed immediately on Friday when defending MAC champion Western Kentucky was blown out at home by Western Kentucky from the Conference USA.

Then Saturday came. Western Michigan lost to Purdue in a game that a non-Power Five team could have had against a Power Five opponent. Marshall beat Miami (Ohio) at Miami pretty convincingly. Eastern Michigan had to struggle to put away Morgan State, only by a field goal. The conference showed no sign of even being decent this year. Perhaps things will change this week, but when one of the best teams in the conference in Bowling Green got embarrassed the way it did, it likely won’t. So for now, this is the worst conference in FBS.
