The LSU Tigers get a breather after such a thrilling victory against Wisconsin last week. With the gauntlet SEC West schedule on the horizon, it’s well deserved. They still need to figure out their quarterback situation, and if they stick with Anthony Jennings, he has got to develop more. The running game looks to be in great shape with Kenny Hilliard becoming the unlikely star last Saturday, but it’s time for the hyped up freshman Leonard Fournette to get some experience. Otherwise, the Michael Jordan and Adrian Peterson talk will fade quickly. The Tigers showed Saturday they have plenty of playmakers on defense, and that could show more this weekend, and they might have a go-to receiver for Jennings with sophomore Travin Dural, who had 151 yards receiving last week, more than he had all of last year.
The Sam Houston State Bearkats may be an FCS school, but they’re not a bad one for a tune-up game. Right now they’re 1-1, and they were 9-5 last year. And they have recent SEC experience, having been blown out by Texas A&M last year.
Prediction
LSU will have its way with Sam Houston State early. Hilliard and Fournette will both rack up 100 yards each, Dural will have 100 receiving yards, and Jennings will have much better numbers while the defense scores a touchdown as well somewhere. This will be a light, fun game for Tigers fans after last week.
