Initially, it would have been nice for Texas A&M to play Lamar after what should have been a tough opening game against South Carolina. But instead, the Aggies are simply in for another easy blowout win. Now, with ridiculous Heisman hype behind Kenny Hill, he has a chance to add to that by padding his stats a lot in this game before the tough defenses of the SEC West get on the schedule. Sumlin can try more things with his offense, and the defense gets a little bit of a breather after playing pretty good last week but giving up too many big plays. Aggies fans will want this game over early. The easiest part of this team’s schedule is the rest of the month, with Rice, SMU, and Arkansas following up this game. So after an elating first win, Texas A&M fans are in for a boring start to the season. Might as well make it fun by putting up big numbers.
The Lamar Cardinals are a great team to rack up stats against, but you won’t get better by playing them. Last year, they were 5-7 in FCS play but opened this season with a nice win over Grambling. Perhaps getting above .500 will be a goal for them.
Prediction
Texas A&M will have a field day on offense. Sumlin’s group will put up giant stats, and Hill will use his numbers to stay in the Heisman race, throwing for at least another 400 yards and 4 touchdowns before being pulled. The Aggies might not punt all game.
