Vegas Pac 12 Predictions

Washington State at Nevada

Line: Washington State by 4

While Arizona-UT San Antonio is a battle of two teams who overachieved in their opening game, this is a battle between two teams who underachieved. Washington State is looking to rebound after an embarrassing home loss to Rutgers last week. The Cougars put up a lot of yards and enough points in typical Mike Leach fashion, but they allowed 41 points, 215 yards rushing, and could not stop anything the Scarlet Knight did on offense. If they are going to win this game, they’ll have to be better at running Mike Leach’s offense, which mean scoring quickly and often so giving up 40 points doesn’t matter.

Nevada, meanwhile, struggled with Southern Utah over the weekend, only winning 28-19. Quarterback Cody Fajardo is a dark-horse Heisman candidate just like Chuckie Keeton, and while his numbers weren’t terrible, they weren’t what you would expect from a mid-major superstar playing awful competition. The offense will have to be more efficient, and the Wolf Pack can’t give up big plays the way they did if they are going to win this game. The Cougars feed off of big plays.

Prediction

Washington State gets back on track this week with a pretty comfortable win against Nevada. The Wolf Pack showed last week they are prone to giving up the big play, so Connor Halliday will have another 500-yard and 5 touchdown day, only this time he won’t turn the ball over and the defense will come up with a big play as well.

Washington State: 52 Nevada: 38
