Old Dominion at N.C. State
Line: N.C. State by 17
Deja vu? After barely beating Georgia Southern, a new FBS team that went 7-4 last year, the Wolfpack now get Old Dominion, a team that is also new to FBS and went 8-4 last year. N.C. State is trying to have a bounce-back season in Dave Doeren’s second year after being riddled with injuries last year, and honestly, a 1-point win against Georgia Southern shouldn’t have been that far-fetched. This team did beat Florida last year and runs a quirky rush-heavy offense that’s very hard to deal with, so simply getting the win is all that matters. But now the Wolfpack have another tough low-level team they’ll be trying to pull out a win against, and this one may not be any easier.
Old Dominion is already 1-0 and was 8-4 last year, and they run a much more balanced offense after quarterback Taylor Heinicke had 281 yards passing and Gerard Johnson had 137 yards rushing. This team is trying to make a statement as an FBS team, and an upset win against N.C. State would be a great start.
Prediction
The Wolfpack will face another scare in the early going of this game against Georgia Southern, but they won’t have the same problems. N.C. State will pull away in the second half and move to 2-0 when it’s all said and done.
