Saturday Blitz Big 12 Power Rankings Week 2

10. Iowa State Cyclones, 0-2 (0-1), Lost to Kansas State 32-28 Last Week

The Cyclones would have appeared to have a strong case for moving up this list after playing Kansas State close this past weekend. But that’s all they have to hang their hats on for right now, and as the only 0-2 team in the conference, it is certainly not enough.

In fact, it says more than anything that this team was a fluke after allowing 19 unanswered points once they went up 28-13 in the second quarter. The Cyclones simply caught the Wildcats off guard and are not good enough to deserve any kind of respect as a Big 12 team as of right now.

The loss to North Dakota State on its own would have been forgivable, ironically. Losing to them by 20 is what is not forgivable. No Power Five team should lose to an FCS team in a blowout, even if that team is one of the best FCS teams in the country and consistently beats FCS teams.

For that, and for giving up more than 30 points two games in a row, Iowa State belongs at the bottom of the big 12.
