Saturday Blitz Big 12 Power Rankings Week 2

8. Texas Longhorns, 1-1 (0-0), Lost to BYU 41-7 Last Week

The Texas Longhorns and Charlie Strong could be in serious trouble. This was a talented team at the beginning of the year that showed how good it could be after blowing out North Texas, but such an embarrassing loss to a good BYU team shows that this program might finally be suffering from the effects of so many suspensions and the loss of quarterback David Ash.

This game was never threatening, and the Longhorns defense looked absolutely awful. Tryone Swoopes didn’t even appear to be the biggest problem as he threw for a touchdown, despite having an interception and many stalled drives. There are more problems all over the field right now than we even thought, and the Cougars thoroughly exposed them. Again.

After their opening week impressive victory, the Longhorns looked as if they could surprise everybody and immediately compete for Big 12 championships with Strong at the helm. This week, we now wonder if the ‘Horns can compete with Top 25 teams right now with so many starters gone.

It’s a long season, but Strong has a lot of work to do with his team before it can move up this list.
