Saturday Blitz Big 12 Power Rankings Week 2
5. Oklahoma State Cowboys 1-1 (0-0), Defeated Missouri State 40-23 Last Week
The Cowboys did enough to remain in the top half of the Big 12 after going toe to toe with Florida State, the best team in the country, the first game of the year. But they struggled a little bit late in the game with Missouri State, mainly in the Red Zone on defense, so it’s still hard to predict where they are going to be right now.
To be fair, the Cowboys were beating Missouri State 37-6 before the Bears came back and made it a 40-23 game, but that could speak to some depth issues. After all, this is a very young Cowboys team that had to replace lots of players from last year and could make Mike Gundy’s job difficult.
The injury to J.W. Walsh could have also thrown the Cowboys off, but the play of Daxx Garman wasn’t so bad, so that shouldn’t have been a problem. More than anything, the Cowboys don’t seem capable of going deep into their young roster right now to overwhelm the opposition.
That could be a problem once Big 12 play begins.
