Big Ten Power Rankings Week 2: Does Anybody Belong at No. 1?
Saturday Blitz Big Ten Power Rankings Week 2
13. Purdue Boilermakers 1-1 (0-0), Lost to Central Michigan 38-17 Last Week
After beating Western Michigan last week and playing a team that barely beat Chattanooga, the Boilermakers looked like they could be ready to take a giant step in head coach Darrell Hazell’s second season. They were poise to double their win total from last year as well, and Hazell would show the world that the program is heading down the right path.
Then the team laid a huge egg and got beat down by a terrible team from the MAC. That makes for two Big Ten teams that got beat by MAC teams, and it’s no coincidence that is why they are at the bottom of the Big Ten power rankings.
The ironic thing is that after looking awful last week, the Boilermakers defense did not play poorly on Saturday. This time it was an inability to take care of the football with three costly turnovers.
Which is ironic because Hazell comes from the Jim Tressel coaching style of playing defense and taking care of the football. His team has not yet come through on either part of the game, and it cost them Saturday.
